Job description (entire company, your department, etc.)
We are a comprehensive home appliance manufacturer headquartered in Osaka, Japan. We offer a wide range of home appliances such as TVs, smartphones, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, and other products that enrich people's lives. I have been consistently involved in the telecommunications business since I joined the company, working in a wide range of areas including research laboratories, cell phone development, stationed in the U.S., and launching new businesses. Currently, I am in charge of promoting our solution service business for corporate customers, which is a cloud service that I have designed and developed myself.
How does your study at Shibaura Institute of Technology apply to your current profession?
The basic knowledge I learned while in school has been put to great use even after joining the company, and I recall receiving praise for my graduation thesis research in my fourth year, in which I learned the importance of thinking logically, including theme selection from various perspectives, simulation, trial manufacture, experimentation, analysis of results, and consideration. I was also thoroughly taught to think independently, to repeat trial production and experimentation many times without fear of failure, and although sometimes the results were backward, I was still taught by my laboratory supervisor at the time the spirit of never giving up and finishing the project. Even after entering the company, I have faced various trials and tribulations, but I believe that I was able to overcome many difficulties with the lessons I learned over the past four years as one of my assets.
What are you actually doing as a cross-disciplinary approach in society, or what do you need to do to cross-disciplinary?
In the field of cell phones, technological innovation continues as high-speed communication and Internet technologies evolve and phones are equipped with cameras, games, and other functions. Information and communication technology will continue to play an important role in solving issues by connecting people, goods, and services. In social issues such as population decline and climate change, knowledge in a single field is limited. In addition to one's own field of expertise, it is important to have an interest in other fields and to actively engage in exchanges. Furthermore, the role of engineers is changing with the addition of AI technology. It will be important to maintain a flexible attitude so that you can always acquire the latest knowledge and respond to the needs of society, as well as to collaborate with other laboratories inside and outside the university and participate in joint projects with companies and national organizations as cross-disciplinary efforts.
