Ryojo Tanijima, Project Associate Professor, Field Robotics Laboratory

We are engaged in research and development related to "field robotics," which targets robots that operate in natural environments that are difficult for humans to enter or in environments that have not been prepared for robots. In particular, our main targets are disaster sites and construction sites, and we are conducting research on crawler-type mobile robots that can travel over rough terrain, construction robots such as hydraulic excavators that perform automatic excavation, and disaster investigation equipment that can be transported by drones. We emphasize both development and evaluation in the laboratory and field experiments in real-world environments, and aim to realize robotics and automation technologies that are useful in the real world by shuttling back and forth between the laboratory and the field.
