In February 2024, we conducted a global PBL to develop a Virtual Reality application in collaboration with Thai-nichi Institute of Technology (TNI, Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology) in Bangkok.
- Target : 2nd and 3rd year students of Information Technology Course, 2nd and 3rd year students of Design Engineering Course
- Location: Bangkok, Thailand
- Description : Application development using Unity + Meta Quest
- Cost : 165,000 yen (airfare + accommodations), scholarship available (max. 70,000 yen)
- Contact : Takashi Ijiri (leader), Natsuko Noda, Peeraya Sripian
Fifteen students from TNI (11 students from the School of Information Technology, 1 undergraduate student from the School of Design Engineering, and 2 TAs) and 14 students from TNI (14 undergraduate students and 2 TAs) participated in this program. In this gPBL, "Learning Unity Development (on-demand videos and self-study)" and "Meta Quest Application Development Exercise (1-day at Toyosu Campus)" were conducted as prior learning to acquire the prior knowledge required for Virtual Reality application development. In addition, "Study Session on Thai Culture (IGP Sripian)" was held to deepen understanding of the local culture.
Then, from 2/14 to 2/23, TNI students and Shibaura students stayed in Bangkok and formed groups in pairs to conduct PBL. The group work included a tutorial on application development using Quest 2, discussions to determine a development theme, an interim presentation to announce the development theme, development based on the theme, and a presentation of development results (presentation and hands-on experience). Field trips to temples and museums in Bangkok and factory tours were also conducted. Since the daily program ended at 4:30 p.m., many students went out for dinner with TNI students in Bangkok afterwards, or went to museums and shopping malls, actively deepening exchanges even outside the program hours.
