Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) has been promoting Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) to provide students with inclusive access to global learning opportunities. Among these initiatives, professors from the Innovative Global Program (IGP) have been actively conducting COIL programs, providing students with unique opportunities to engage in global learning experiences by connecting with international friends and worldwide invited lecturers.
IGP faculty members have been conducting several successful COIL programs across various disciplines:
- Physics & Engineering COIL Courses (SIT × Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia): AY2022 - Present New line IGP professors have been facilitating COILs in Superconductivity, Magnetic Materials, and Fluid Dynamics, bringing together SIT and ITS students to give joint lectures, conduct online experiments, and conduct discussions.
- WebDesign & Programming (SIT × Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia (Malaysia)
SIT students collaborate online with UPM students to give presentations and exchange ideas. Flexible online discussions are held while coordinating different class times. - History of Japan & Physics (SIT × Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember,. (Indonesia)
A COIL program integrating humanities and engineering, the program provides SIT students (including undergraduates from Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America) and undergraduates from Indonesia (ITS Surabaya) with an international perspective on the history of Japan and physics. Understanding the historical background and its development process will provide the basis for a deeper understanding of scientific and technological advances.
Through IGP-led COIL courses, students gain subject-specific knowledge and develop cross-cultural communication skills, global perspectives, and international collaboration experience—all essential for success in today’s interconnected world.
