In "Mechanical Design and Drawing 2" (Core Machinery Course, second semester of the second year), students design a machine that can actually operate using CAD (design software). Students decide on materials, shapes, machining methods, etc. to meet specifications. It is a painful but enjoyable challenge to think of a machine that satisfies various restrictions while receiving advice from the instructors.
